How to Prepare Meter Evidence for an Electricity Bill Complaint
Build a clear timeline of official bills, dated observations, meter identity, estimates, corrections, and provider contact.
Build a timeline, not an accusation
A clear complaint is easier to investigate when it states what was issued, what was observed and where they differ. Avoid guessing the cause before identity, dates and readings are checked.
Collect the essentials
- Original bill and any revised version
- Consumer/reference and meter number
- Provider reading dates
- Previous/current official readings
- Actual or estimated status
- Dated physical observations near the period
- Meter replacement or multiplier records
- Prior complaint reference and response
Redact sensitive references before sharing evidence publicly. Send complete details only through an authorized provider channel.
Create a chronological table
| Date | Source | Reading/event | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aug 8 | Previous bill | 21,140 | Actual |
| Aug 22 | Physical meter | 21,208 | Dated observation |
| Sep 7 | Current bill | 21,410 | Marked estimated |
| Sep 9 | Physical meter | 21,332 | Later value below estimate |
This example highlights a specific issue without claiming why it happened.
State the requested resolution
Ask a focused question: verify the meter reading, explain an estimation, correct meter identity, review a multiplier, or issue a revised bill. Include the complaint/reference number in follow-ups.
Preserve originals
Do not alter a reading to match a bill. If you correct your own typo, retain an audit note explaining the change. Keep both original and revised provider bills.
MeterPilot can organize the property, meter, readings, cycles and bill record into one timeline. It is not a substitute for the provider's complaint system, regulator or legal advice.
Safety and access
Never break a seal or open electrical equipment to obtain evidence. If the meter is unsafe or inaccessible, document that condition from a safe location and contact the provider.
Write the complaint so it can be answered
Use a short subject such as “Request to verify current reading for meter ending 6051.” State the disputed bill, exact mismatch and requested action in the first paragraph. Attach a numbered evidence list and preserve the submission receipt.
For Pakistan DISCO customers, consult the current NEPRA Consumer Service Manual and the NEPRA complaint system rather than relying on an old social-media template. NEPRA lists a revised Consumer Service Manual dated November 26, 2025; processes and eligibility can change.
Keep the complaint narrow
Strong requests include:
- Verify why the bill's current reading exceeds a later physical observation.
- Confirm which meter serial number is assigned to the account.
- Explain whether the boundary is actual, estimated or adjusted.
- Provide the old closing and new opening values after replacement.
- Issue and identify a revised bill if an error is confirmed.
Avoid publishing complete consumer IDs, telephone numbers or meter photographs in public forums. They belong in the authorized complaint channel.
Reserved until one app view can show source-labelled evidence without a misleading manual collage. No unrelated screenshot has been substituted.
Build a timeline you can verify and share.
Use dated observations, official bill facts and clear meter identity before escalating a concern.
